Britney Spears' short-lived visit to Lubbock remains a sore issue for some concertgoers and fans after the June 8 concert was cut short because of an electrical failure at the United Spirit Arena.
Jim Bush, USA technical director, said the building was up to code with what the Spears show required, but power in the transformer that fed the show failed. This effected lighting and lasers for her show, and it went pitch dark backstage.
After performing "Oops I did it again" and "You drive me Crazy," Spears appeared on stage with a new costume and an announcement that the concert would not continue.
USA General Manager Kent Meredith said the decision to cancel the show was made by Spears' people, and he was not consulted before the announcement.
Despite pleas from USA officials, Spears will not return to Lubbock. Concertgoers received refunds instead of a return performance.
Spears' United States tour ends in Dallas on July 22. She is scheduled to be in Mexico after that, but dates were not provided to The University Daily.
