In addition to his duties in the classroom, one Texas Tech professor is working to draft a law guide for the state.

The Texas Bar Association awarded the National Alliance on Mental Illness-Texas a grant to develop the sixth edition of the “Texas Criminal Procedure and the Offender with Mental Illness: An Analysis and Guide," according to a Tech news release. Brian Shannon, Paul Whitfield Horn Professor in the Tech School of Law, will draft the edition.

The $20,000 grant will be used for this edition, which Shannon is drafting on a pro bono basis, according to the news release. NAMI-Texas will use the grant to give copies of the edition to Texas lawyers and judges.

The Texas Bar Association, according to the news release, has funded the previous five editions of the guide through the use of grants.
