Hometown Health Care: Health Sciences Center vital to rural area medicine

Texas Tech Physicians will provide an opportunity for the Texas tech and Lubbock communities to receive free cancer screenings on Saturday.

Dermatologists of Tech Physicians, according to a HSC news release, will host cancer screenings and educate people about the signs of skin cancer from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on May 11 at 602 Indiana Ave. in the Southwest Cancer and Research Center.

Attendees will be able to listen to dermatologists discuss skin cancer symptoms, such as moles, flaky patches on the skin and flesh-colored bumps, according to the news release.

In addition to the free screenings, referrals for treatment will also be given to people taking part in screenings, which require no appointment, according to the news release. For more information about the event, one can contact Kathleen McPherson at 806-743-5637.
