Texas Tech quarterback Taylor Potts’ Lynnwood residence was burglarized at 10:55 a.m. today, according to the Lubbock Police Department.

Sgt. Mickey Chambliss of the department said the case still is under investigation as of this afternoon.

Two suspects were apprehended shortly after the incident, Chambliss said, and stolen property was recovered.

He said he did not know the names of the suspects or if the stolen items were the property of Potts.

Potts said the burglars broke in the back door while he and his roommates were at class.

“I wasn’t there. I kind of wish I would’ve been,” he said. “They were on the verge of taking everything. They had everything laid out really, getting ready to take it. I guess that happens when you live on your own.”

The maintenance staff at Lynnwood reported the situation, Potts said, and he believes they handled it perfectly. His house, however, remains in less-than-perfect shape.

“As far as I can tell the whole house is trashed, but as far as I can tell everything is still there,” he said. “The maintenance people at Lynnwood, the people working there, did a great job noticing that it was going on and then handling it.”

I am sorry to hear that Mr. potts had to suffer such an indignity. I hope it all turned out well. My appreciation of him was really elevated during the entire James fiasco. Whenever he was in the public light he handled himself, and represented the University, with class and dignity. I was very touched by his post Alomo Bowl interview. His actions off the field were then and remain the sole reason I have any residual affection or respect for my Alma Mater. I am looking forward to seeing him have a super year in 2010 and be rooting for him at every opportunity.

GO GET'EM TAYLOR!!!!!!!!

Part of the problem we are seeing with LPD ineffectiveness (take a look at our crime stats compared to other places in the state) is due to the fact that the city manager, and not our elected mayor and city council, hire and fire the police chief. The LPD is answerable to the manager, not the citizens. Hence it is an unresponsive, unmotivated bureaucracy which is apparently devoting a lot more effort to getting raises than to fighting crime.

We need changes in the city charter to bring LPD under control of the citizens. Please support City Councilmen Lohn Leonard and Paul Beane in bringing these changes in the city charter to a vote, and please vote for them.

Haha, LPD isn't exactly an Ace police force... I handed a guy with glass in his arm from my window (which he broke, while breaking into my house) over to them, and he got off based on lack of evidence...

I enjoy that the LPD can apprehend the people that robbed Potts so effectively, while they have no idea who broke into my house with the testimony of my neighbors and positive id's of the culprits. Thanks Lubbock
