Don't look now, but somebody soon may be checking out your rear end; there are no ifs, ands or "butts" about it.

The Tech Activities Board will host a butt-sketch artist between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. today near the information desk in the Student Union Building.

The butt artist will take approximately two-and-a-half minutes for each butt sketch and actually will draw more than just students' butts, said Jana Vise, assistant director for Student Union and Activities. The sketches will be done from the top of the head to "about the knees."

After seeing a butt-sketching event in Florida, Vise said she and other members of the board "loved it," and wanted to bring the event to Tech.

"It's going to be a lot of fun," she said, "because it's something different - we haven't done it before."

The concept of the formal butt-sketch experience began in 1988 in Dallas, said Scott Talarico, president of Neon Entertainment, the Buffalo, N.Y., company that represents the still-Dallas-based butt sketchers.

"It's probably one of the events that gets booked the most on our roster," he said. "It's definitely very popular."

Butts, he said, will be sketched with charcoal.

Vise said many students seem very intrigued with the concept of butts being sketched and "are just really curious as to what exactly it really is."
