With loss of Reyes, Texas Tech football looking for new punter

With the departure of senior punter Alex Reyes after the 2006 season, the Texas Tech football team had a few players lined up to fill the position. But with some misfortune because of eligibility and injuries, the Red Raiders are hoping to find a punter through tryouts open to the Tech student body.

Arm wrestling: Tech baseball will rely on pitching to take down Baylor

After coming off a series win over No. 16 Nebraska to open the Big 12 season, the Texas Tech baseball team will travel to Waco this weekend for its second Big 12 opponent, Baylor, for a three-game series. Tech coach Larry Hays said his starting pitching rotation will be the make-or-break factor in determining his team's success against the Bears.

Tech softball drops conference home opener

The Texas Tech softball team almost had to postpone its home opener once again because of rain. But after just an hour rain delay Thursday night, the Red Raiders took the field in front their home fans for a pair of games against No. 3 Oklahoma. The home-field advantage, however, was not a factor as the Raiders dropped both games to the Sooners, 7-0 and 7-3.

Men's and women's tennis teams have Nebraska next up on the list

Nebraska is the next obstacle for both the Texas Tech men's tennis team and the women's team to obtain their first Big 12 Conference wins of the season. While the men will continue their road trip against the Cornhuskers 1:30 p.m, Sunday in Lincoln, Neb., the women host Nebraska 10 a.

Tech women's golf returns to Arizona once again

Coming off its second lowest three-round score in school history, the Texas Tech women's golf team is set to participate in the Mountain View Collegiate in Tuscon, Ariz., Saturday. The tournament will be the second for the team in Arizona and the fifth of its eight scheduled contests this season.

Tech track heads to Arizona for first outdoor meet

The Red Raider track team will be traveling to Tucson, Ariz., Saturday for its first outdoor meet of the season at the Arizona Invitational. The one-day event will be a competition between three different conferences. Two teams from the Pac-10 conference, two teams from the Big 12 and two teams from the SEC will compete against one another.
