Texas Tech junior defensive end Brandon Williams will declare for the NFL Draft along with redshirt sophomore receiver Michael Crabtree.

Williams said he was told by the NFL's College Advisory Committee he could get picked in the third-round, at the earliest.

Williams, a Fort Worth native, will start training today at the Michael Johnson Camp in McKinney. He said he will train with Crabtree, who also is expected to declare for the 2009 NFL Draft today at a 3 p.m. press conference.

Tech Associate Athletic Director Chris Cook said he was informed Monday that Williams filed the papers necessary to enter the 2009 NFL Draft.

After talking it over with his family, Williams said he believed the decision was the best to make and he said it was difficult because of the bond he built with the other Tech defensive linemen.

"It was real hard because me and the defensive line," he said, "we had already set goals next year on how we're just going to dominate and just be the best out there."

The junior defensive end said he has had little chance to talk with Tech coach Mike Leach or Tech defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeill.

Williams finished the 2008 season with 13 sacks, bringing his total as a Red Raider to 22.5. The 13 sacks, all of which were solo, led the Big 12 Conference this season.

Williams' career total also is good for fourth on Tech's all-time sacks list.
